DIVE CONTROL SPECIALIST
Practical Experience for Future Instructors
Bell Scubas’ Dive Control Specialist course is the first professional level in the SSI system. and qualifies you to independently supervise qualified divers.The SSI Dive Control Specialist course not only provides valuable preparation for Instructor training, but also expands skills that enhance a DM's professional capacity. During the course you'll be on developing your skills, knowledge and supervision techniques to the same level required to be a SSI Instructor.Upon successful completion of the DCS course you meet the pre-requisites, and may choose to participate in the SSI Instructor program.
Open Water Dives
During the open water training dives you will practice problem solving and dive management as well as assisting one of our Instructors during diver training with real life students.Knowledge Development Module
The knowledge development section of the course is completed by a combination of self-study and classroom lessons. The following topics are covered.- Physics
- Physiology
- Decompression theory and RDP
- Skills and Environment
- Equipment
- Supervising Students in training
- Dive Control Specialist conducted programs
- Supervising certified divers
Swim and Skills tests.
To become a Dive Control Specialist you need to be able to:- Swim 400 meters in less than 12 minutes
- Snorkel 800 meters in less than 17 minutes.
- Perform a tired diver tow for 100 meters in less than 4 minutes
- Correctly perform a diving skills test
- Correctly perform a rescue assessment
In addition to the requirements above, prior to certification you will be required to make an underwater map of a pre selected location and construct an emergency assistance plan for use in the event of a diving medical emergency.
Student Pre-Requisites
- Minimum age of 18 yrs. and certified as a Stress and Rescue diver or an equivalent rating.
- You need to have 20 logged dives to start the course and 60 prior to certification.
- A current diving medical (within 12 months) must also be submitted.
